KTP - Research

Publication by London college of Arts, showcasing some of their most successful partnerships.

Effektive - LOA+DS Exhibition

Again with an indication towards the KTP brief, the branding for this exhibition by Effektive uses striking colours against a primarily monochrome backdrop. Different colours are used across a range of publications to help you easily differentiate between them - and it seems an obvious choice for the KTP package.. I'm a little nervous about choosing colours however, always have been. But I'll see how it works out!

Music - Meir Reports

Some good inspiration for my KTP brief, I want some kind of colour separation to distinguish between the separate course areas that Steve had discussed with us - I hadn't yet considered using different coloured stocks as the price of this run has to be kept relatively cheap. However these reports designed by Music use cheap sugar paper and one colour 'icon style' graphics. Possibly the cheapest way to produce a booklet like this ever, but still really effective!

Effektive

Pretty standard logo and business card set up here, nicely photographed - but I'm mostly loving those brand guidelines. Poster format, interesting layout... who the hell said brand guidelines were boring?!
Also a really good way to display something (for portfolio use or whatever) potentially a little dry in a way that's still quite intriguing.. It would look rubbish if it was just a pdf. Right?

Design Context Workshops

This morning we did a useful exercise to help us gather areas of research for our context books. I've not had chance to think about mine recently what with everything else, so it was good to be forced into it really. I've got a good idea of the things I want to achieve this year but I'm forgetting to write things down and make notes, generally a bit unorganised, but I'm just concentrating on getting my dissertation done and over forever so I can spend the rest of my time focusing on design stuff, and catching up with everyone else.

Anyway, We were asked to write down 5 subjects, apply a statement as to why we were interested to each one... and then pose 5 questions that could lead to interesting research next to each of the 5 subjects!
Simple? Yeah?

We all went round after this and wrote on everyone elses sheets - questions that might help them in their quest for research...

I noticed that most peoples subjects (including my own) were divided into two catagories... they were either
  • Design processes or skills that they were hoping to find an application for.
or
  • A specific area of interest outside their design practice (ie. skateboards) that needed to be paired with a range of design skills.

Might be an interesting way to catagorise the final context book?
Anyway, this is what I cam up with, and everyones responses...

Protein

'Protein aims to understand culture a little better through the application of a little science. Since launching on 1st January 1999, Protein has been delivering media medicine to the masses'

Pretty cool calendar (I'm a sucker for a rainbow) it's got a pretty interesting theory behind it that seems to form the basis of the whole company -
